2008 "One degree of Learning" at Surovi

The 1° gang with the project "One Degree of Learning" made the next stop at Surovi - a school for underprivileged children in Dhanmondi. Adorned in red uniforms, the kids are a handful for everyone. Although we went at a time when they were too busy planning for their winter break, our project was still successful and very exciting. The kids LOVED it!

suroviSeeing this was our first visit to Surovi, we spent the first hour or so getting to know the kids - they were just as friendly and adorable as any other kids we worked with. And we all had a great time playing badminton and cricket, enacting scenes with "Chowdhury" and the hero fighting over Chowdhury's daughter, taking turns to put on the doctor's apron, singing loudly, and even having scholarly discussions on women's rights and acid violence!

The quiz was conducted smoothly, with many students finishing early and then doodling on their test papers (we encouraged them too, a little bit of creativity can't hurt!). And as the script checking team raced with each other to complete the checking, our members sat down with the kids to discuss the correct answer, and had even more fun breakdancing!

In short it was one of those days 1° members will never forget, and we are extremely grateful to Surovi authorities for making it possible.
