1° of Learning started out as a series of intra-school quiz competitions, the winners of which were promoted to an interschool-round. It was a 1° attempt to let underprivileged children experience school spirit as they watched their schools compete. We now conduct small quiz competitions under the same banner in different both inside and outside Dhaka.

From the very beginning, 1° Initiative members have been touched by children considerably less privileged than themselves, yet so much more eager to study and learn. Hence we have tried to help by distribute among them the easiest medium for spreading awe-inspiring knowledge - books! Starting from July 2008, 1di has built libraries in several underprivileged schools both inside and outside Dhaka, with donations of old books made by members, friends, families and several schools.

Project Shorey Aw is an initiative to to inform, inspire and instill hope in rural youth, in an effort to help them step up an take up leadership roles in their communities. It also aims to provide them with a platform to explore possibilities beyond the boundaries set for them by the community. 1di has conducted several Workshops with these aims in different parts of the country.

Every Eid, 1di likes to take initiatives brighten up this joyous occasion for children who don't have the opportunity to enjoy it the way they deserve to be able to. Whether it is buying them clothes, putting henna on their hands, or just spending some quality time with them, 1di members are deidcated to spreading the spirit of Eid around every year.

All children have some kind of talent hidden in them somewhere, but not all of them are fortunate enough to cultivate them. In a 1° attempt to give these children some opportunity to showcase these talent, 1di has organized cultural camps with several schools, which have culminated in large cultural shows attended by their parents, teachers and prominent figures from Dhaka.

In September 2008, 1° Initiative brought out its first batch of t-shirts and distributed them gladly among members and wellwishers. Special thanks to Ehsanur Raza Ronny for the brilliant illustrations and Mr. Golam Kibria Chowdhury and G.A.P. for supplying us with and printing the t-shirts.

The 1° Challenge was a 12-day long Leadership Building Project for 1di members. It kick-started with a training in Basic First Aid, organized by 1° Initiative, and open to everyone. The core part of the challenge was carrying out three community service projects. Members were divided into three teams and each team assigned a mentor, a senior member and a project leader.

In April 2008, One Degree Initiative donated a rickshaw to rickshaw-puller Md Noor Islam, who had lost his rickshaw to thieves. The rickshaw features 1di's name, logo, and email address. The rickshaw was cosponsored by Nazim Farhan Choudhury from Adcomm Ltd.

In June 2009, 1° Initiative began to collect aid for Aila victims in the form of clothes, dry food, money, saline, medicines, etc. In late June, two members from 1di travelled to Satkhira to distribute the Aid. Relief was distributed in Atulia (where Phulkuri had also set up a Medical Camp with medicines donated largely from CommunityAction), Pakhimara, Protobnogor, Chakla Gram, and Noyabeki.

Every winter 1° Initiative collects warm clothes from friends and families and various organizations across Bangladesh, and with the help of acquaintances and volunteers, distributes them among those who are effected the most by the cold harsh winters.
